CFP: A session at the annual meeting of the Renaissance Society of America,
4-6 April, San Diego, California.

Drawing from the works on text and image from Visual Culture scholars, this panel aims to understand and analyze this multifaceted art form, the illuminated manuscript. All papers addressing the various aspects of the fraught and complex relationship between text and image in the illuminated manuscripts (from Medieval to the Renaissance period as well as Eastern illuminated manuscripts, i.e. Turkish, Arabic, etc.) are welcomed.

All papers from a variety of disciplines (Art History, Comparative Literature, History, Depts. of Languages & Literature, English, etc.) and approaches are encouraged. Interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches are especially welcome.

From 2 to 6 may 2012, the international symposium “Art Fugitiu, Estudis d’Art Medieval Desplaçat“ will be held at the institute of Geography and History of the University of Barcelona.

The conference is organized by the EMAC – Romànic i gotìc founded at the Institute of Art History of the University in Barcelona. One major goal of the research group is to edit a comprehensive catalogue on catalan arts of the middle ages regardless of its place of conservation.

Their 3rd international meeting will center around questions concerning the fleeting relics of the middle ages and their importance for the reconstructive consideration of artistic personalities, materials and styles. Du 2nd au 6 mai 2012, le colloque international “Art Fugitiu, Estudis d’Art Medieval Desplaçat” sera tenu à l’institut de géographie et d’histoire de l’université de Barcelone.

La conférence est organisée par la groupe EMAC – Romànic i gotìc fondée à l’institut d’histoire de l’art de l’université de Barcelone. L’Objectif de son travail est un catalogue complet des arts catalanes du moyen âge qui inclut des différents médias et lieux de conservation.

Son 3e rencontre international s’occupera des question concernant les vestiges fugitives de l’art du moyen âge et leur importance pour la reconstruction des personnalités artistiques, des matériaux et des styles. Vom 2.-6. Mai 2012 wird das internationale Symposium “Art Fugitiu, Estudis d’Art Medieval Desplaçat“ am Institut für Geographie und Geschichte der Universität von Barcelona stattfinden.

Das Symposium wird von der Gruppe EMAC – Romànic i gotìc organisiert, die am Kunsthistorischen Institut der Universität von Barcelona gegründet wurde. Ein Hauptziel ist die Redaktion eines umfassenden Katalogs zur katalanischen Kunst des Mittelalters, der verschiedene Medien umfassen und unabhängig von deren Konservierungsort gestaltet werden soll.

Ihre 3. internationale Zusammenkunft wird sich mit den Fragen der Vergänglichkeit mittelalterlicher Relikte sowie der Frage nach ihrer Bedeutung für die Rekonstruktion von Künstlerpersönlichkeiten, Materialien und Stilen. From 23-25 May 2012, the conference “How the Bible became a book. The making of the Biblical manuscripts (4th – 15th centuries)” will be held at the Département d’Histoire of the Université de Namur.

The program is available via CALENDA and the hompage of the institute. The conference is organized by the research center “Pratiques médiévales de l’écrit” whose goal it is to promote collaborative projects on different research levels in the study of the western middle ages with a special interest in the multiform complex of medieval writings (as stated in the project’s description).

Du 23 au 25 mai 2012, le colloque “Comment le livre s’est fait livre. La fabrication des manuscrits bibliques (IVe-XVe siècle)” sera tenu au Département d’Histoire à l’Université de Namur.

Le programme peut être accédé sur  CALENDA et la site web de l’institut. Le colloque est organisé par le centre de recherches “Pratiques médiévales de l’écrit” dont “l’objectif principal est de promouvoir les collaborations à tous niveaux dans le secteur de la médiévistique occidentale qui s’intéresse à la problématique multiforme de l’écrit au Moyen Âge”.
